The symptoms of pilonidal disease can very very greatly from one person to another. But, the basic types of symptoms symptoms can be:
-
- Chronic discomfort in the buttock crease area
- A tender lump in the buttock crease area
- Drainage in the gluteal crease or off to the side of the crease (sinus)
- Bleeding in the gluteal crease
- Small midline pits (enlarged pores)
- Actual open wounds in the gluteal crease
- Acute Pain with a lump in the center or off to the side of the gluteal crease (pilonidal abscess)
THIS CAN BE VERY CONFUSING, BECAUSE PILONIDAL CYSTS CAN PRESENT IN SO MANY WAYS! HOWEVER IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE DIAGNOSIS YOURSELF – IN LARGE PART BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT THAT MANY OTHER THINGS THAT COMMONLY CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE GLUTEAL CREASE! IN SPITE OF THIS, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN DOCTORS IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM OR IN PRIMARY CARE CLINICS HAVE TROUBLE MAKING THE DIAGNOSIS. BUT, IT SHOULD BE EASY FOR A PHYSICIAN FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. NO X-RAYS, CT’S, MRI’S OR ULTRASOUNDS ARE NEEDED FOR THE DIAGNOSIS.
